Proton pump inhibitors can severely reduce the effectiveness of certain antifungals like itraconazole and ketoconazole by blocking stomach acid needed for absorption. Fluconazole is unaffected, but has other drug interactions. New research suggests PPIs may also boost antifungal power in fungi.
